Grinnell College Athletics issued the following announcement on July 6.
Grinnell College has repeated its hold on the Midwest Conference All-Academic Team, earning a league-best 281 spots for the 2017-18 season.
Grinnell's total consisted of 241 actual student-athletes, some who earned Academic All-Conference honors in two or three sports. St. Norbert College was a distant second with 184 selections.
The criteria to become an Academic All-Conference selection includes a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.33 which is calculated only in the awarded academic year. Freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors who letter in any of the MWC's fall, winter or spring sports are eligible for the award.
Grinnell's dominance can be seen in the fact the Pioneers had the most Academic All-Conference selections in all three sports seasons – 114 in the fall, 94 in the winter and 73 in the spring.
Of the 20 league-sponsored sports, Grinnell had the most selections in half of them – men's cross country (24), women's cross country (18), men's soccer (24), men's basketball (15), men's indoor track and field (18), men's swimming and diving (18), women's swimming and diving (21), baseball (19), men's tennis (eight) and men's outdoor track and field (18).
